Funtrip · Mexico City or Cancún, Mexico
Director of Operations, Mexico
Employee #1 on the ground in Mexico. Build Funtrip's service-provider network, stand up operations from zero, and report directly to the Founders.
About Funtrip
Funtrip is building a smarter way for Mexicans to plan and pay for travel: an AI-powered trip-planning experience paired with an accessible travel-credit line. Funtrip is a product of Suena AG, a Swiss technology group headquartered in Zug, Switzerland, with operations in Mexico. Suena holds a SOFOM license, has established Mexican banking relationships, and has built a proprietary AI credit engine that assesses risk through digital footprints rather than relying solely on traditional credit history. That technology powers Funtrip's target approval rate of 98% for domestic travel credit. The technology and regulatory groundwork are in place. We are now looking for the person who will build and operate Funtrip in Mexico.
The Role
You will be Funtrip's first senior hire on the ground in Mexico. You will turn a Swiss-engineered travel-credit product into a functioning, growing travel business. You will report directly to the Founders and act as Funtrip's decision-maker in Mexico. Your first and most important responsibility will be to build Funtrip's service-provider network. You will identify, approach, negotiate with, sign, and onboard the hotels, tour operators, airlines, and experience providers that make Funtrip a real travel product. This is not one responsibility among many. It is the first job, starting in week one. You will also build the local team, operating processes, partnerships, reporting systems, and market presence from the ground up.
What You Will Own
- Build Funtrip's service-provider network across Mexico, including hotels, tour operators, airlines, and experience providers.
- Own the full provider onboarding process, including prospecting, negotiation, contracts, integration, relationship management, and ongoing performance.
- Build Mexico operations from zero, including the team, office, workflows, and operating processes.
- Develop and manage relationships with travel providers, financial partners, regulators, and other strategic partners.
- Oversee credit origination and portfolio reporting for Funtrip's travel-credit line.
- Ensure compliance with applicable SOFOM, CNBV, CONDUSEF, and PLD/AML requirements.
- Act as Funtrip's senior decision-maker in Mexico and coordinate daily with the Founders.
- Define operational and commercial KPIs.
- Build performance dashboards covering provider growth, onboarding, credit performance, customer activity, and operations.
- Identify new opportunities to grow Funtrip's provider and distribution network.
- Help shape the evolution of Funtrip's travel-credit offering as the business scales.
The Product
Funtrip is a travel-credit product for domestic travel in Mexico, supported by an AI-powered trip-planning experience. Its credit engine uses alternative, digital-footprint-based scoring to serve customers who may not have a traditional credit history. Funtrip's target approval rate is 98%. Funtrip is part of Suena AG, a Swiss technology group developing financial products for the Mexican market.
Who We Are Looking For
- An entrepreneurial, hands-on operating background in a startup or scale-up.
- Direct experience in Mexican travel, hospitality, fintech, consumer credit, partnerships, or business development.
- Experience building a provider, merchant, partner, or distribution network from the ground up.
- A strong network across Mexican travel, hospitality, fintech, or corporate partnerships.
- Experience negotiating and closing commercial agreements.
- A data-driven and analytical approach to decision-making.
- A record of building teams and processes from scratch.
- The ability to operate independently with Founders based outside Mexico.
- The ability to make decisions with incomplete information and move quickly.
- A base in Mexico City or Cancún, or the ability to relocate immediately.
This Role Is Not a Fit If
- You have only worked in a traditional large-bank environment.
- You need a large management structure in order to operate effectively.
- You have never built partnerships or operations from zero.
- You lack direct experience with the Mexican market.
- You are uncomfortable owning outcomes personally in an early-stage company.
Why Funtrip
Funtrip combines travel, finance, and artificial intelligence to address a major gap in the Mexican market. You will join at the earliest operational stage, work directly with the Founders, and have the opportunity to shape the company's provider network, team, operating model, and market position. This is a high-autonomy role for someone who wants to build the Mexico business rather than inherit an existing structure.
Compensation
Competitive, market-leading package. Details will be shared during the recruitment process.
